How We Adapt Our Tours to Weather and Tides
Nature on Ishigaki is constantly changing — with sunshine, wind, rain, and of course, the tides. That’s exactly what makes our kayak tours so exciting! To ensure that every tour is safe and enjoyable, we plan each one carefully according to the conditions of the day.
Flexible with Weather and Wind
The subtropical climate means that weather on Ishigaki can change quickly. A short shower is quite normal — and often, the sun returns just a few minutes later.
Before every tour, we check the latest wind and rain forecasts. If the waves on the ocean side are too strong, we stay within the calm mangrove area or slightly adjust the route. This way, every tour offers something new — and you always get to see nature at its best.
Why the Tides Matter
The mangrove forest along the Fudōkigawa River transforms with the tide. At high tide, we can paddle deep into the lush green channels, while at low tide, fascinating sandbanks and mangrove roots appear. We schedule our start times according to the tide chart to reach the most beautiful areas at just the right moment.
Safety and Experience in Balance
Our goal is for each tour to be both memorable and safe. That’s why we always make individual decisions about whether and how a tour takes place. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we’ll reschedule or suggest an alternative route — with no extra cost or hassle for you.
Our Tip
Even on cloudy or slightly rainy days, the atmosphere on the water can be incredibly peaceful. Many guests say those moments became their favorite memories of Ishigaki.
